Mapping Wi-Fi access points in the City of Tallahassee, Florida

The purpose of this site is an educational tool for security of your Wi-Fi access point. The maps will show you how many sites are not using the basic security built into ALL access points. WEP! Turn it on and keep your site secure. Most people think they don't have to worry about it since they operate Wi-Fi out of their house. But all it takes it one person to send spam through your access point! You can imagine what would happen next!

In addition to monitoring the 800Mhz Trunking System here in Tallahassee, there is a new band to monitor, specifically 2.4 Ghz Wi-Fi. Using tools such as GPS devices, software such as Netstumbler , Stumbverter and Microsoft's MapPoint 2004,  you can now scan the airwaves and record the information on your computer for site surveys and later study. These tools were used to provide the information on this web site.

Please note that it is illegal to try and connect to an access point that does not belong to you!  Check out Security Tips for your home network!
